[2007-2011] Branding and Social Media: the honeymoon
After decades of media hype, brands realized that if they wanted to stand out from the competition, they needed to build a closer relationship with their customers.
Social media appeared at that moment as an ideal way to bond with consumers. The goal has been to create a community of independent ambassadors who are seen engaging with the brand.
Advertisers have gone to great effort to create social media campaigns to build these communities, contests that prompt or require users to “like” their page, and additional branded content. Social community managers were recruited and put to work.
